Ten ingredients engraved at the line, with the onions, the peppers and the beans separated by hatching alone and no color to help: it is the heaviest anglophone page of the collection. The double-ruled frame does most of the work, and the six steps run in roman numerals beneath the axial line.

What this style does
Pen and black ink engravings, with no flat gray at all: every halftone comes from the density of the hatching. Each ingredient sits in an oval cartouche with a double rule, and the page is symmetrical inside a double-ruled frame.
Very slightly broken paper, black alone, gray kept for secondary type. A bodoni in spaced capitals, roman numerals for the steps. The object it imitates is a perfumer's label.
Who it is for
Quiet kitchens, old apartments, the gift that should look expensive without raising its voice.
What is in it
2 lb ground beef, 2 yellow onion, 2 bell pepper, 5 garlic cloves, 3 tbsp chili powder, 1 tbsp cumin, 28 oz crushed tomatoes, 2 cans kidney beans, 2 cups beef broth, salt and pepper.
