A pecan half engraved in pen and ink, its grooves built from hatching alone with no flat gray, is the most detailed single object on any page of this site. Nine oval cartouches inside the double-ruled frame, held in axial symmetry, and the title in spaced bodoni capitals above the roman numerals.

What this style does
Pen and black ink engravings, with no flat gray at all: every halftone comes from the density of the hatching. Each ingredient sits in an oval cartouche with a double rule, and the page is symmetrical inside a double-ruled frame.
Very slightly broken paper, black alone, gray kept for secondary type. A bodoni in spaced capitals, roman numerals for the steps. The object it imitates is a perfumer's label.
Who it is for
Quiet kitchens, old apartments, the gift that should look expensive without raising its voice.
What is in it
1 pie crust, 2 cups pecan halves, 3 eggs, 1 cup dark brown sugar, 1 cup corn syrup, 4 tbsp unsalted butter, 2 tbsp bourbon, 2 tsp vanilla extract, 1 tsp salt.
